White Fang was the book of my childhood. I don't have a great memory for many things in my younger days, but this book is one of the few things that I do remember.

White Fang was a survivor. He had to be. A young wolf cub growing up in a harsh environment having to defend himself constantly against the other wolfdogs who hated him. This persecution turned him into the strong, intelligent and cunning alpha male that he eventually became.

I believe, in a way, he became a symbol to kids like me who could associate with some of the struggles and challenges in his life. He was above all a survivor.

The story of White Fang is also inspirational to me because I now know that the most powerful force in the known universe is inside every one of us - the human spirit and in the case of White Fang - the animal spirit.
