Whimsical Art for Children's Books

My art is fun and whimsical, yet has a sophistication not always found in children's books. You might know the RIP SQUEAK® Characters which my wife, author and book designer, Susan Yost-Filgate and I created. RIP SQUEAK® is a successful Brand which is known and collected worldwide. While I occasionally still work on RIP SQUEAK® images, I have chosen to also explore other avenues with my art and am thus open to new projects. I prefer creating images of animals and imaginary or exaggerated characters over humans. My work is usually executed in acrylic on canvas or board, or pencil on paper. I am skilled at painting and drawing and like working in both mediums.

As an artist and illustrator, I have received few book awards and numerous honors, including a major solo exhibition of my work at the Delaware Art Museum and in 2003, I was the featured illustrator at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. I am an Artist Member of the New York Society of Illustrators.
