The Kilted Caricaturist

by Tony Docherty

Jumping Horse cartoon

Tony works on caricatures from photographs in pen and watercolour and also live at events

Lately I have been looking to draw illustrations for children's books, my son and I have hours of fun just drawing pictures of what our adventure the weekend has ahead of us or what we had done the previous day. It's a geat way for him to keep a diary and a great keepsake for him when he is older.

That got me thinking what a great idea to draw illustrations for children's books, with caricatures it is all about the information given to you about the person you are drawing. It's that information that brings the picture to life, the fact their face is part of that makes it memorable to them personally.

Taking the narrative of a book and illustrating it, making the book come alive with visual imagery and words to go hand in hand and take the child on a new and exciting adventure every time.
