Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree"
Each time I read The Giving Tree
I well up with a kind of emotion that moves me to tears!
Really!
Its premise is so simple. The illustration is quite basic. It is just the very idea of a boy communing so closely with nature, then taking advantage of her in a sort of ravishing way, then taking comfort in the stump he himself has created, floors me every time.
I suppose it hits to close to home for what is happening to this chaos of a planet we live on today.
Thank you Sheldon for your fantastic contributions to this world! You have given humanity an insightful yet simple type of meta-physics which can be enjoyed by children of any age.
