My mother read this book to me, a chapter a night, when I was just seven years old. I looked forward to bedtime, for it became a time of adventure. My mother was a wonderful reader, made every character come alive. When there was something I didn't understand, we paused the story to discuss it until I knew what was going on.
This time was just for us; all others kept away. It was a thoroughly delicious time for me as a child. My mother introduced me to literature and made me love reading beyond most other things. I am happy to have given this gift to my grandchildren. The ten-year-old is never without a book in her hands.
My mother started a wonderful family tradition. A trip to the library is as wonderful as a trip to an amusement park.
