Does your child's shyness seem excessive? Is oversensitivity preventing your child from fully interacting with other children? Whether you consider your child's shyness a behavior or simply a personality trait, I have a book that just might help.
My children's behavior book, How Smoolie Became a Shy-entist, is a form of bibliotherapy. Bibliotherapy is the use of children's books to address children's problems. Smoolie is the story of a shy child whose self-consciousness starts causing her isolation and pain. But Smoolie's mother helps her become a shy-entist - somebody who starts noticing shyness in others! Once Smoolie realizes she's not the only person with this feeling, her mom helps her find out what other people do to overcome their shyness. Equipped with these new tools, Smoolie makes friends with a girl even shier than Smoolie! It's an important story, and one that might help any child become a little more outgoing and feel a little less alone. But I've done something else to make sure that Smoolie's message really hits home. How Smoolie Became a Shy-entist has no pictures because it's meant for your shy child to illustrate. Why? So that every time your child adds an illustration to the book, the book's lessons are reinforced. Repetition is key to learning. For a limited time, this children's book about shyness is FREE Before I begin selling my children's behavior books, I'm looking for feedback on them. Here's the deal... I want you to try this book about shyness with your child. But I need you to agree in advance to either write me about your experience or email me a picture that your child draws for the book. I may use your letter or your child's drawing on the site, but I will only post it with your first name and your state, province or country. The book is in PDF form (though if you prefer you can open a regular webpage and copy the text into a word processing program). You simply print it out on separate pages for reading and illustrating. Do we have a deal? (No, I want to read an excerpt of the shy child book first.) If so, please fill out the form below. You'll be taken to a password-protected page with the simple instructions right away. I can't wait to hear how it goes for you! See the other children's behavior books. Best Children's Books home. |
