Print-on Demand by Barringer Publishing/Lightning Source

My first book was with a print on demand publisher who was not pleasant to work with and who retained my rights for several years.

I found out too late that the book stores and libraries will not order a self-published book. Not sure why they are so biased against self-publishing but it was like a brick wall. I think they are afraid they can not return a self-published or print-on demand book.

I left that old publisher and I moved my Matchlines for Singles, a self-help for single people and my childrens books Malia and Teacup Awesome African Adventure and Malia and Teacup Out on a Limb books to Barringer Publishing who is a small, full-service publishing house that distributes through Ingram. As a cooperative publisher Barringer Publishing is a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association and so far book stores and libraries have ordered freely.

Barringer not self-publishing
by: Steve B. (webmaster)

Molly, if you're saying that Barringer is something other than a self-publishing outfit, I'm hoping you can clarify for us how so. I see that you call them a "full service publishing house," but aren't they still requiring you to pay for publication?
