Self Published Christmas Book

The 12 Days of Christmas Giving

The 12 Days of Christmas Giving

Publishing by Others, For Hire or by your SELF- Either way..it's always up to YOU.

Self Published the old fashioned way, 10 years ago, inventory of 5,000 books of two titles (10,000 total) that I had to warehouse, take orders for, act as my own Publishing House. Divorced and moved...the books went with me. Something to consider.

What company did your printing?

First one, a local printer in the town where I lived, a graphics designer was hired and the entire operation was up to ME.

The second, I was HIRED to write the history for a book of artists work. They went out of business and I cannot get copies readily.

Currently: I did all illustrations, writing, sent to a POD, Expedia, deadline not met in Dec. so it will be focused on THIS CHRISTMAS. But overall, the experience has been positive.

So it is JULY and I am planning the tour myself, planning book signings, contacting other authors and booksellers for MY own book.

The book for hire, I did the same thing. The publisher was counting on the artists to sell them. It was a 40 retail book. I organized the artists, created signings and events, but never even met the publishers.

So I have done it all three ways. I will let you know in December, just how successful it has been, but the great news is, I don't have warehouses, I set my price, they registered for my ISBN's and all I have to do is generate sales. If I don't sell any, they are still around.

The first books? They are all useless...dated. I changed my name. (I consider now updating them and scanning them POD to give them a new life with my new married name)

The second books, they were not POD. They were a first run and are basically OUT OF MY CONTROL. They were beautiful hard back books with illustrations from over 50 local artists.

This book: it is in cyber space. It is available for print orders on any book seller's website. It is up to ME to promote it but for a fee I can have them sell it.

"THAT IS WHAT I KNOW" :)

Publishing any way involves effort on behalf of the author. I feel best about the POD. And I am looking forward to trying it digitally.

Thanks so much for posting my information. There is so much out there making publishing easier for writers.

It is difficult to get the word out that anyone's idea can come to life!

Blessings!
