1st page from "The Tale of the Woodhag"

Having just graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with a 2:1 in Fine Art Sculpture, I have re-discovered my love for drawing and painting.

I have just completed a short children's story entitled "The Tale of the Woodhag," which comprises 15 full page illustrations and 16 written pages (which I am in the process of trying to publish).

I have a vivid imagination and currently work part time doing arts and crafts workshops, so I am in regular contact with children aged 5-12; they help feed my imagination.

I can come up with original images to complement your text and ideas, and I am willing to do sample sketches.

I mainly work in pen, pencil and watercolour.

As I am looking to build up my portfolio, the fee is negotiable; if you can make a suggestion we can go from there.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Versatile & Unique!

Hi, I'm Jay Penn, an artist and illustrator with a flair for unusual creatures and the ability to use various media to achieve a wide variety of effects and styles.

I am proficient with

- watercolours
- pastels

...pretty much all and sundry, really.

I have a keen interest in traditional faerie lore and art, and my own work reflects that, but I am in no way restricted to this field, as I have a love of all children's books and illustration.

I am also a commited and thorough artist, so if you DO intend to use my skills, you can be assured of promptness, efficiency, and a willingness on my part to get as close as possible to what you envision.

So drop me a line if you're interested; we can talk in more depth about what you are looking for and how I can help!

Volunteering art skills, to build portfolio in childrens book illustration work

As a life long, self taught artist, I am only now contemplating future career opportunities within illustration for children's books.

As a self taught, life long, artist (previously within the Community Education & Counselling career setting), I have been brought back onto a path focusing on creativity due to ill health. I like to think of this as a positive, yet unplanned, and at the time, unwanted route I have ventured onto and am now delighted to be in a position where I have for the past number of years been fortunate enough to focus all energy back into my art work.

I work mainly in acrylic or mixed media but have previously worked a little in oils, charcoal and watercolours.

Past commissions have come from both individuals and large companies/hotels. I enjoy variety - painting landscapes, portraits, imaginative works and creations on canvas as well as most recently murals and door art for a local arts and culture centre.

I am currently offering my art services free of charge or voluntarily, for the cost of materials alone, and any postal costs or petrol costs which may be involved. This is to not only to build up a reputation within this field of work, but also to build up a portfolio of illustration work.

My children's illustration type work is limited, but I hope you like the example I have attached.

If you like what you see and read and would like me to provide some sketches or samples for any of your work, do not hesitate to get in touch. Many thanks, and I look forward, in anticipation, to my next creative challenge on my adventurous journey through life.
