A Reading Activity ...and so much more
Have I got a reading activity for you! This activity: - develops your child's imagination
- keeps your child VERY busy
- results in a treasured keepsake
- can improve a problem behavior!
I've written a series of downloadable, printable, pictureless picture books. They're the ultimate reading activity: picture book stories that your child illustrates. Benefit #1: Your child practices imagining a story. Why is this an important skill? Because as your child inevitably moves from picture books to chapter books, being able to picture the story helps keep a love of reading alive. With this reading activity, your child actively imagines the story and depicts it on the page. Benefit #2: This is a long-term project. With approximately 20 pages in each book, there's a lot of illustrating to do. Stretch it out over a few days. Encourage your child to do his/her best work, because... Benefit #3: This book becomes a valuable keepsake. Once your child has finished, give the book a binding and a place of proud display in your home. Your child will be the illustrator of a real book! But I haven't even told you the biggest benefit of all... Each of these books is about a child with a common problem behavior. In fact, chances are that your child has at least one of the problem behaviors in these books. You see, this reading activity is a form of bibliotherapy. The books help your child address a problem behavior because they make the problem about some other child. Believe me: your child doesn't want to be like the kids in these books. And that's the point! So... Benefit #4: Your child can learn improved behavior! In fact, that's why the books are pictureless. The book's message is reinforced every time your child returns to illustrate it! An old fashioned reading activity | | One of the books | | Before movies and tv and video games, parents used to read to children and tell them stories. Not just because reading is important, but also because stories are important. Stories are how parents used to teach. "The moral of the story is..." Nowadays our children get plenty of stories, but most of them don't teach the lessons we want our children to learn. These books do. And they do the best kind of teaching... The kind where your child doesn't even know it's occurring! How to get the reading activity books - Choose the book below that your child is most likely to benefit from.
