Problem behaviors? As every parent and teacher knows, it's easy to tell a child what to do. Getting the child to actually do it is the hard part. Even harder is getting a child to choose to behave properly. After all, when proper behavior occurs just because you insist on it... The child probably won't choose the proper behavior when he/she thinks you won't find out about it! You've taught him/her to avoid punishment! You may have come to this page looking for stories with morals Well, guess what? To a child, a story's moral sounds a lot like you dictating what proper behavior should be. The effective alternative to a story that dictates is a story that illustrates. That is, an effective story is one where the main character ends up choosing the right behavior because he or she wants to! For instance... If your child struggles with honesty, you want a story where the main character struggles with honesty, but his dishonesty causes him problems that result in unhappiness. In the end, the character should choose honesty and get a happier outcome. That makes your child think... I want to be like that character! Make sense?
Stories that illustrate, not dictate I'm Steve Barancik, the owner of this site and the author of a series of books I call the Children's Behavior Books. These are books intended to help you help your child with some "popular" problem behaviors. They're fun books. The characters have silly names. The books don't tell your child how to behave. They just depict a child who ends up choosing to behave well. Two things you should know
1) These are ebooks. You download them as .pdf files (or copy them into a word processing program from a standard web page). This way I can sell them to you much cheaper than a regular book, and you can put them to use right away. 2) These books are unillustrated. They're picture book stories but without the pictures! Why? So that your child can illustrate. After all, repetition is key to learning. Every time your child returns to the book, that's one more exposure to the character's important message! How it works

To make the best use of your behavior books, print and read the instructions as well!
Still not sure? That's understandable! You don't know me from Adam! So why don't you read what some parents (and teachers) who have used the Child Behavior Books have to say! Best Children's Books home. |
