When a child struggles to play nicely with others, it can be painful for a parent to watch. It's painful for the child too.
A child who doesn't master cooperative play is a child who will struggle to make friends. Children who have "play date" skills don't enjoy playing with children who don't. Does your child have a problem sharing? Working together? My children's book about playing nicely, The Time Balooga Forgot Other People's Feelings, is a form of bibliotherapy. Bibliotherapy is the use of children's books to address problem behaviors.
Balooga is the story of a child who used to play nicely, until she discovers that bratty, selfish behavior helps her get her way. The result: other children stop wanting play dates with her. Her mom helps her to see that her bad behavior is costing her friends...and happiness. Balooga's story lets your child recognize herself or himself in a fictional child. But I've done something else to make sure Balooga's message really hits home. This children's book about cooperative play has no pictures. It's meant for your child to illustrate. Why? So that every time your child adds an illustration to the book, the book's message is reinforced. Repetition is key to learning. The cooperative play book is in PDF form (though if you prefer you can open a regular webpage and copy the text into a word processing program). You simply print it out on separate pages for reading and illustrating. As with all my Children's Behavior Books, the price for The Time Balooga Forgot Other People's Feelings is only $3 US. At that price, how can you lose? I'm also going to throw in a second behavior book - FREE - about picky eating. Because what family doesn't have a picky eater! Do we have a deal? (No, I want to read an excerpt of the play date book first.) Click the button to purchase. You'll be taken to PayPal, a secure site. After you've paid, you'll be returned to this site for your book and simple instructions on getting the best results from it. Thanks! See the other children's behavior books.
