Out of the woods...

Self publishing by Lulu

My first book, Tales of the Tree People "To tree...or not to tree?" was traditionally published. I knew that my material was good because it was the first children's book that I had ever submitted. I didn't have time to submit my manuscripts to different publishers. I even got an agent, and still nothing has happened. I had to keep writing, and www.lulu.com allowed me to do that! Now my illustrations are used as cover art on my books, and I have control over pricing, which I didn't have before. Lulu even gave me a widget for my website! I'm still looking for traditional publishers, but in the mean time my work is still getting exposure...

Folks should also check you out in the illustrator section. And on my other site, The Shared Self Publishing Experience.

Traditionally published?
by: Steve B. (webmaster)

Lori, I have to clarify something for the record, since I limit these pages to self published folks and you call your book traditionally published.

Tales of the Tree People was printed by PublishAmerica. There is something of a running debate - a major one, actually - about whether PublishAmerica constitutes "traditional" publishing.

Many have observed that PA makes the bulk of their revenue off sales to the author.

Recognizing the debate and the argument that PublishAmerica authors are possibly self published, I make this section of the site open to them. So welcome!
