lay out question

by Irina
(Redmond WA USA)

Hello!

I have a question to professionals.

A friend of mine would like to publish her first book. It is "Learning ABC" book targeted at preschool age Russian-speaking children, and the book is in Russian.

The book is already edited, illustrated, laid out and ready for print. Since the book is in Russian and was designed and laid out by Russian book designer, according to Russian standards (such as font type, size, color and paper kind which are probably different from US ones) could you perhaps advise me what US standards would be applicable to children book?

Thank you in advance!

Sincerely yours,

Irina

Irina, I don't know the answer, but I'll leave this up for anyone who might.

Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!
Looks like this is a kind of "very special" information, I cannot find it anywhere. I appreciate deeply your attention and your advice!

Hope this helps

With permission from our illustrious webmaster, I self-published 2 books through CreateSpace.com and found them to be VERY helpful and maybe they can help you. They have a "community" of writers who seem very knowledgeable, and if they don't know they seem to have a wealth of information and/or people to get the answers. There is another self-publishing company called LuLu, and they are based in England, but that "community" seems to be in sort of a mess with some changes LuLu has made, but you might want to ask there, too. I hope this helps you.

Thank you!

Thank you, Markie, so much! I've written to Createspace and now wait for their answer.

Publishing a children's book
by: JackandFriends.IE

Hi Irena

I have written and published a children's book in Ireland "Jack goes to Playschool", the first in a series of books JackandFriends.ie. It was at my discretion to choose a suitable book size, font type etc. which I felt as the author was suitable for the audience the book was aimed at. If you use a type-setting service in the country you wish to publish they may also be able to advise you further. Best of Luck!
