I am a married mother of one hilarious, ridiculous, 4-year-old bookworm. We make an effort to visit our local library at least once a week, and we read an enormous variety of books together.
We always have: I've been reading to him since the day we brought him home from the hospital.
My educational background is in Social Work theory, though I have freelanced as an academic editor for the last 7 years. This, in addition to my passionate, lifelong love affair with books and my extensive research into the children's publishing industry, informs my opinions of any picture book I come across.
I tend to have strong feelings about a book and I love to share my thoughts.
I believe wholeheartedly in the power of stories to enrich a child's life, to promote personal well-being and to enhance his or her understanding of the world.
It is important to me that my son be exposed to the best stories, the most innovative, the ones which depict real-life situations honestly and can provide a gentle segue to difficult conversations.
I know I'm not alone in wanting this for my son, so I hope that by offering reviews through Best Children's Books I can help other parents and caregivers make awesome book choices, and instill a love of reading in their little ones.
