Italian Illustrator

by Silvia Dotti
(Milan, Italy)

Illustration with blurred background and ink drawing

The Lady of Shalott

My name is Silvia am 30 and live near Milan, Italy.

Since I was a child I have loved art. I have been attending a painter's studio since I was 15, first as a student, now as a partner.

There I have learnt various techniques, i.e. watercolours, pastels, acrylics, oil colour and also how to paint on ceramic, clothes, wood and glass.

As I'm particularly attracted by oriental motifs I have also recently followed a course regarding oriental painting with black ink on rice paper, where I have learnt how to sketch various plants and lanscapes with ink only, without preparatory drawing, oriental art being essentially meditation.

My artistic carreer has culminated vith various exhibitions in prestigious art galleries throughout Italy, such as Rome, Milan, Genoa, Lake Garda and with the illustration of two self-written children's books which will soon be published by Badiglione Editore - Ferrara and Edigiò - Pavia. I have illustrated both books, the first with old-fashioned fairy-tale illustrations, the second with simpler and more colorful ilustrations for young children.

My illustrations are always kind of realistic (not cartoon-style, though I also enjoy making them on request). I prefer drawing people, but I also paint landscapes. I have been recently developing other tehniques, such as watercoloured backgroud with sea salt (the salt rendering the background kinda blurred) and the charachters drawn on this background with black ink.

Hereunder my online portfolio.
