Illustrator / Artist / Graphic Designer

I am a freelance artist with 40 years experience. Lots of books/covers, brochures, illustrated stories etc. I started back in the dark-ages of design when everything was done by hand. A significant part of that early experience involved operating a dark room and printing press. With the advent of the PC I embraced hard-coded typesetting… advancing with each step of graphics technology as it developed.

The advantage to all of this experience is that I know why my software does what it does. I know what printing presses, paper and ink are capable of…I design for the final product not merely the initial RGB impression.

I am fluent in pen & ink, opaque watercolor, oils, and digital media.

Though I retain an active client list I am desirous of expanding my business. My production/project management experience has encompassed every aspect of print media from concept to fulfillment. I have been directly/solely responsible for the art/prepress & print supervision of over 465 direct mail projects (over 325 million units). All of this is to say…I am intimately familiar with the demands of the graphic design and print industries. My most significant caveat … I’m not a proofreader.

My online portfolio is a sketch of my attention to detail and ability. All of the work in my site is 100% mine (with the exception of a few royalty-free photos). Obviously after 40 years…the work I’ve profiled has been selected from piles of accumulated samples: selected principally because I enjoyed the project.

I have enjoyed a national and international clientele in the course of my career. Some of my more prominent clients are: World Challenge, Inc., (the ministry of David Wilkerson). Heartland Church, (the ministry of Steve Hill, international evangelist). Don Wilkerson (International Teen Challenge). Bob Fraley, (founder & owner of Alexco / a high-tech aluminum extrusion firm). Etc,

For these firms and others, I have generated a variety of graphic and illustrated projects. Original art, book covers & text files, managed print cycles, direct mail and more.

I quote my projects on the basis of my estimated time for a flat fee (this is very much to your advantage as I usually take longer than I anticipate).

Small projects of under $500.00 will be billed upon your satisfaction. Larger projects will be billed in increments: 1/3rd upon sketch approval, 1/3rd upon polished art, final 1/3rd upon delivery of files.

I do not do work-for-hire. Unless alternate copyright terms are negotiated I retain all rights other than those specifically surrendered for the initial project. The client may not sell resell my artwork without my express written permission.
