I know My Eggs Are Going To Hatch Because I am Sitting On My Eggs

Self published, printing by Father & Son Associates

My story began of course when I wrote my book "What's On The Other Side of The Rainbow? (The Secret Of The Golden Mirror)." That was the easy part. However, the real journey began when I decided I wanted to be a published author. No small feat, especially when you have no idea how to become that. However, I was determined so I started to talk to any one that would listen to me.

I spoke to teachers, professors, parents, producers, editors, librarians, children, anyone that would listen, they were going to get an ear full. I learned when you have a good idea people listen. So, feeling encouraged I took my idea to the ABA and in 2 days I had numerous orders from book stores and libraries from all over the world. While I was there, I spoke to as many publishers as possible and learned it was easier said than done to get a book published without a literary agent. Even if you have a good idea.

A lot of years went by with me gaining knowledge and of course writing more books.

It was after finding the right artist, (Omra Jo Fochtman) and being able to raise the money to print my first children's book What's On the other Side of the Rainbow? (my book helps children to understand what their feelings and emotions are for) that my dream of becoming an author became a reality.

In preparation for my baby coming into the world I started to call schools and book stores and set up book readings so when my book came into fruition I had 90 book signings already lined up. Since February of 2006 I have completed 185 book signings. My book is in the public libraries and in the public schools. I have been on TV, newspapers, magazines and several radio stations and I am overjoyed to say that last week I got into Baker & Taylor!

Every day I wake up knowing I am living my dream. I am grateful.

Now, I am in the process of writing a movie script based on my first book.

All I can say, it is a lot of fun delving more and more into this reality that is known as a self published author.

Thank you for letting me share.

the "social" work of self publishing
by: Steve B.

Carla, I'm impressed by all the legwork and face time you describe going into the self publishing process. You clearly are your own publicity department.

I think people would be well advised to go to your site and visit the Book Signings and Events page. Page down. See how busy Carla's schedule is! Maybe that's what success looks like.
