Going Through the Publishing Process Myself

Where Are My Christmas Presents?

Self published, printing by Asian Pacific Offset

Yes, you are right. MOST self-published books - especially children's books - are blindly refused and unaccepted. In fact nowadays - if you are not a recognized author - it's hard to get in the door - period. HOWEVER, that being said - a very good book cannot be completely overlooked forever.

I never tried to get my book published by anyone else because I believed in my story and wanted to go through the publishing process myself. Furthermore, I didn't want complete strangers taking most of the money just for publishing rights (okay, I admit I had very little choice on the retail side :P).

It took three years of hard work and a good book, but I have now sold over 1,000 copies of Where Are My Christmas Presents? with no advertising other than awards, reviews, and word-of-mouth. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of grit and determination to peddle a self-published book, but I'm here to tell you that there are a few that are worth the effort and don't give up the dream!

Where Are MY Christmas Presents???
by: Steve B. (webmaster)

Oh, that's right. I'm Jewish.

Greetings, J.G., and welcome to the site. I'm glad you've had such a great time with your book!

Hey, listen: I visited your site, and then I visited Google to look up your book. I couldn't help noticing that your own website comes in nowhere in the rankings for your own book.

I suspect you'll agree with me when I say, "That's just wrong!"

But of course, Google has its reasons.

Can I suggest that, at a bare minimum, you remove the block at the bottom of your home page that contains every iteration you could think of "Children's Christmas Book" and your book's title?

That's a trick that may have fooled Yahoo in 2002, but not Google in 2009. In fact, it likely offends them! (Partially explaining your low ranking.)

Their algorithm (their secret formula) is sophisticated enough to know when someone is trying to fool them into ranking their site highly.

The only way to rank highly for a search term like children's christmas book is to offer a great resource of information on the subject! (And we could talk further if you ever consider creating that resource.)

Here's wishing you many sales this coming season!
