Rainbows, Mandalas and Other Art

by Carole Stevens Bibisi
(Bradenton, Florida)

Rainbow Mermaid

Rainbow Mermaid

Although I have illustrated my own children's books, I'm primarily a gallery artist.

I wrote & illustrated books when I first came to America from Australia, to make great gifts for my grandkids, but it blossomed into something else when people began reading my work & asking for copies. By then I had finished the Bronte series, so I decided to self-publish the introductory book, "Tails."

I also realized the book would help homeless animals, especially the black cats who carry such the bad rap about being sources of bad luck. A portion of my sales helps support my local shelter.

I love rainbows, & they run all through my work. I'm influenced by stained glass windows, Celtic & Art Nouveau styles, & my medium is Prismacolor pencils.

I have a rainbow angel & mermaids. (More to come!)

Mandalas are amazing & healing to make & gaze at, & creating them is a special joy for me. Enjoy my feast of colorful mandalas! Read about the interesting art & history of mandala making.

I was educated in art college in New Zealand & initially worked in the advertising/newspaper & display field when I left college.

I have my first solo art exhibition coming up for the whole month of May in the Manatee Arts Council Gallery in the Village of the Arts, Bradenton, Florida.

Enjoy!

Illustrator of Children's Books

by Larry
(Brooksville, Florida)

Bag Man

Bag Man

Full Sail University, Art Institute.

A lifetime of drawing, painting, sculpting.

I'm trying to make a living at something I love to do. I have training in advanced Photoshop and Illustrator in Adobe CS5.

I am currently working with an aspiring author, doing sketches for her children's book.

We first started off with the main characters. She does not have a lot of money to work with, so I do about 4 scenes per month as she writes.

I started off with a sketch. Then I added color texture and shadowing. Then you get into expressions and scene work.

I work for $20 a hour or a set price for each scene. Characters run between $50-$100, depending on how difficult they are.

Beautiful Vision and Professional Application
by: Robin L. Gordon

I hired Julie Weaver to illustrate a children's book entitled, "Lift: A Gosling's First Flight" and to design the cover and book jacket. As a self-published author/illustrator of a previous book, I was a bit uncertain about what to expect.

I was extremely pleased with her artistic talent and willingness to work with my vision to create the perfect illustrations. Her reliability, flexibility and creativity were so appreciated.

I would not hesitate to call upon her again and hope to share the success stories resulting from this effort with her!

Wonderful illustrations & wonderful artist to work with
by: Cheryl

I hired Julie to illustrate a children's book about my new pet pig. She had a fast turnaround and gave me exactly what I wanted. She was more than happy to make any changes and adjustments that I wanted and was truly a pleasure to work with. My children's book, "The Adventures of Persey the Pig," is now sold online and in stores and is in libraries. Everybody loves Julie's illustrations.

I would definitely hire her again, and I recommend others to do so as well. You won't regret it!

Imaginative Cartoon Illustrations

Boy and Ox

I am a full time illustrator and cartoonist specializing in children's books.

I began getting paid for my art early on, writing and illustrating comic strips and political cartoons for newspapers and magazines.

While I did pursue a career through college, I chose to study psychology rather than art, while learning to hone my skills in illustration through on-the-job experience with freelance work.

Today, I have illustrated over 20 children's books and have provided art for many other illustration-related projects.

In addition to the traditional picture book, my art and flash animations have been used in interactive picture books for the iPad and other e-books. I have provided cartoons for logos, greeting cards, websites, animated shorts, and business material as well.

My work is usually created by drawing a detailed pencil sketch that is scanned and colored with Photoshop. For an alternate, cartoon style, I draw entirely digitally to produce more crisp, bold lines.

Sometimes I combine the two styles, allowing a character to stand out as a bolder, digital drawing that is complemented by a more subtle, pencil background.

Super talented and a true pleasure to work with
by: Douglas E. Richards

I worked with Angel for the cover of my newest kids books, ETHAN PRITCHER, BODY SWITCHER. The cover came out better than I could have dared to hope.

Angel is super talented and easy to work with. He is priced quite reasonably also. He came up with some great touches that really helped. (I wanted to convey a movie set but wasn't sure exactly how to do it, and he came up with a perfect movie star chair, complete with a gold star.)

It was a great experience from start to finish -- really (and believe me, I've had some nightmarish experiences working with other artists for other covers). I couldn't recommend Angel any more highly.
