Is your child

Hard to Please?  Dishonest?  Scared to Sleep Alone?

Then keep reading to find out how a BOOK can help cure your child's behavior problem.

A new approach that takes your child's EGO
OUT of the equation!

"Bibliotherapy is the process of using books to help children think about, understand, and work through social and emotional concerns."

from Positive Child Guidance by Darla Ferris Miller

Grown-ups aren't the only people with egos. What do you think the "terrible twos" were about? No one likes being told what to do. That's why your child's favorite word became "No."

Your child is still that same child, whatever his or her age. The only thing that has changed is how your child rebels against being told what to do.

The Child Behavior Books are designed to take your child's ego out of the equation. How? They make the problem about some other kid - the kid in the book!

Instead of being the kid with the problem, your child gets to read a funny book about someone else with a problem. Your child gets to see the problem from the outside. Your child gets to think:

I don't want to be like that kid.

How the Child Behavior Books work

Do you know about the parenting concept called natural consequences?

Simply put, it means letting your child experience the negative consequences of bad choices or problem behaviors.

If your child doesn't water the plant for her school project, you can create a natural consequence by not watering it for her. The natural consequence is that the plant dies!

The children in the Child Behavior Books experience natural consequences.

The books depict a child experiencing a problem behavior much like your child's problem behavior.

In the books, the child with the behavior doesn't see what the big deal is. That is, until the behavior starts resulting in unpleasant consequences.

Once the problem becomes apparent to the child in the book, there's another roadblock: the behavior isn't so easy for the child to correct.

That's when a loving grown-up appears...ready to make observations and suggestions that help the child in the book self-correct.

Self-correction is important! If you want a good behavior to persist, your child needs to

  1. feel that the good behavior is an important one to exhibit, and
  2. be able to take credit for correcting the behavior him or herself.

"The exercise which develops life consists in the repetition, not in the mere grasp of the idea. When a child has attained this stage, of repeating an exercise, he is on the way to self-development, and the external sign of this condition is his self-discipline."

from Montessori Method, by Maria Montessori

"For a young child, repetition is a key to learning."

from Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care, by Dr. Benjamin Spock

The other secret to the books' success

These books (ebooks, actually) will look quite plain to you. Believe it or not, that's a huge part of what makes them special.

The Child Behavior Books are written like picture books, but they have no pictures until your child creates them.

They're pictureless picture books.

Why? Because every time your child draws a new illustration for the book, it's one more repetition of the story's important message.

pastel child's drawing

Imagine that - a learning tool that your child chooses to keep returning to!

Q: Is my child the right age for your books?

A: If your child is still at an age where she/he enjoys coloring or drawing, then the Child Behavior Books should be a perfect fit!

How the Child Behavior Books Came to Be

My daughter enjoyed your story and was very anxious to illustrate the pages.

Lying has been a recent thing in our house so we have tried to address it right away using several different tools. I think she is getting the message and your story helps with that.

I think that your particular story may be one that “sinks in."

Kaye, OR, USA

When I was in high school, I tutored. In college I became a "Big Brother" for the first time. I've been a foster father as well.

I believe in children. I believe in their potential. When a child isn't succeeding, I figure it's because a loving adult hasn't yet figured out how to help that child succeed!

If your child is experiencing a problem behavior, it's a problem for you AND your child.

  • It's a problem for you because you know the behavior is unacceptable.
  • It's a problem for your child because your child doesn't know how to fix the behavior.
I just had to write and tell you how grateful I am for your book. My almost four-year old son had been having some difficulty sharing at pre-school and this book really helped us! Thank you so much!

 Rob Callahan, parent

Sometimes grown-ups persist in trying to correct a child's problem behavior the same way...again and again and again...

We're behaving as poorly as our child. That's right! In the same way our child is doing the same thing again and again, so are we! You know Einstein's definition of insanity, don't you?...

Doing the same thing repeatedly,
each time expecting a different result!

My child behavior books give you a different tool, giving you and your child a chance for a different result!

What qualifies me to write the Child Behavior Books?

So far so good. The kids are continuing to illustrate the books. I read it to them originally and then left them two GBC bound copies on the dining room table with a box of crayons. On occasion they have just sat down and started drawing and talking about the story on the pages. I have just left it up to them to illustrate when they want to. My daughter is up to page 14 and my son is right behind her.

Thank you for contributing such a wonderful resource to help us teach our children.

I'm the guy who listens to kids. I''ve also spent my entire adult life crafting stories for a living.

I wrote for Hollywood for a dozen years, creating movies and tv pilots. I wrote mysteries and romances for popular magazines. I also perform comedy based on stories taken from my life.

(Google Steve Barancik.)

These storytelling skills come in handy when I craft the Child Behavior Books.

I read to children in schools and the local Head Start program. I pay attention to what kinds of stories kids like.

One thing they always like: humor. That's why all my books are funny and light-hearted. Humor - as long as it's not at your child's expense - puts your child even less on the defensive when it comes to dealing with behavior problems.

I'm also the guy who created this huge site on the subject of children's books. I guess you could say I know my stuff!

Remember the behaviors?

Lying/Fibbing  Picky Eating Not Cleaning Up

Cooperative Play  Shyness  Playing Alone

Hard to Please  Dishonest  Scared to Sleep Alone

There's a book for each one. You could buy any of the books separately.

But...

...if you keep reading, I'll tell you how you can get all the books for the price of one...

Bonus #1

Nothing brings me more joy than the pictures children draw for my books

I want to create an online gallery of Child Behavior Book drawings. I'd like to have drawings from children from all parts of the world!

Our 5 year old liked the story. We have noted an improvement in her behavior. As we continue the process of reading it and completing the drawings we'll keep you posted. Please keep us informed of any future books.

Heather, British Columbia

So here's the deal...

If you buy one of the books then email me a copy of one of your child's drawings, I will send you - FREE - the next behavior book of your choice.

Keep sending me drawings and I'll keep sending you free books!

(Your child's drawings will be posted anonymously.)

Just contact me here at the site, or use the email address you'll receive when you buy your first book...before getting the rest of them FREE!

Bonus #2

The most common problem behavior I know of is picky eating. Well, it just so happens that my wife, Suzette, is a Registered Dietitian!

Suzette is on a mission to get kids to eat better! So she persuaded me to write a Child Behavior Book with her on the subject of picky eating. We call the book

boy won't eat

How Only Baloney Got Cured of
Spoiled-Taste-Buds-Atitis!

"Only Baloney" is the name of the kid in the story. (I told you the books were fun!)

Most parents wish their kids would try more foods. Healthier foods. That's why with every Child Behavior Book you order you'll be provided a link to download the story of Only Baloney. And here's the great part...

Why the Child Behavior Books are e-books

1. Selling the books as ebooks allows me to keep the price down...way down.

2. A downloaded ebook - rather than a book from the bookstore or the library - is a book you can put to use immediately.

3. Your child can't draw on library books.

4. If you have more than one child, you can print more than one book.

5. The books can be printed and reprinted. If your child makes a mistake or rips a page, all you have to do is print up a new one!

6. Neither your library nor your bookstore has a pictureless picture book section!

Because these books are ebooks, you can print out one for each picky eater in your family!

Only Baloney works just like the other behavior books. Plus...

At the end of Only Baloney you'll find activity pages that'll help you start a dialogue with your child about healthy eating!

After you buy your first Child Behavior Book...

You'll be sent to a page where you'll have a choice. You can either download the book as a PDF file or - if you don't like downloading - you'll be able to link to a standard webpage that contains the book's text.

(If you use the standard webpage version, just copy the text into a word processing program and format as you see fit.)

Whichever approach you use, I recommend printing the pages out looseleaf.

Thank you for letting me download the book. Our ten year old read it and is incorporating it with his playdates. He seems to be getting along better with the other kids. I think the book was amazing. The message hit home with him.

Thanks again.

Dennis, California

Once your child has finished with the drawings for the book, you can bind it to create a more permanent keepsake. (And the book is something to keep handy in case your child's problem behavior begins to come back!)

One important note:

Please print and read the simple instructions you'll be given after you buy the book.

Presenting the book to your child in the proper fashion gives you the best chance of improving the problem behavior!

Okay, time to choose your book!

I just stumbled across your site and wanted to tell you how amazing I found it to be. Both children's books were really well written and unlike any I've seen before. They teach a great lesson.

Thanks so much!
