Diane Lucas has over ten years experience as a freelance illustrator

She has illustrated numerous books and covers for publishers and self-publishers. Diane works in the mediums of oil, colored pencil and digital using Photoshop and Corel Painter IX.


Her favorite and frequent subjects are children, animals, insects and nature. She can work in many styles from high realism to cartoon, but her style of choice is whimsical with bright colors and lots of action.

Diane has worked with many self-publishing authors who are managing the printing production themselves or publishing through POD companies. She is familiar with the digital formats required by Print On Demand companies and printing houses. Along with her illustration services, she provides manuscript layout and planning, cover and title design. Diane works for a reasonable fee and does not ask for royalties from self-publishers and small publishers.

Diane has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a college degree in Printing Production.

I worked with Diane on my self-published children's book "Princess Zaara and the Enchanted Forest." I found Diane to be very professional and approachable. As a first-time author she guided me and gave advice on aspects of the outlay, design of the book and explained publishing technical points. I thought the illustrations perfectly matched the plot and the feel of the message.

The illustrations are imaginative and stylish and I have had extremely positive reactions about them. I was impressed with the quality of the work and thought the illustrations really brought out the characters and the setting of the story. In fact I used them for a video book trailer which can be viewed on Youtube and Amazon.com

I highly recommend using her services which I also found to be reasonably priced. It was a pleasure working with her and I hope to work with her again for the next project.

I recently published a book entitled "Mommy, Why Don't I Look Like You?" with Diane as the illustrator. Everyone who looks at this book cannot believe how terrific these illustrations are! The illustrations are pictures of my adopted daughter Grace, her father, and myself that Diane painted. We are all immediately recognizable. She has conveyed our feelings through facial expressions throughout the book. She is a truly outstanding and talented illustrator.
