Cat-House Sonnets: 100 poems celebrating cats

I had been told and told that I needed to publish my cat sonnets, that I got into the minds of cats, that cat-lovers would see their pets in my work. I had also been told that there was no market for poetry; it was a waste of time even to think about a publisher.

Then, my soul-mate cat died and I had to do something. His death brought me face-to-face with mortality. I just lucked out. I found Jorlan Publishing and was delighted to find a publisher who was a woman. I sent Lana my manuscript; I didn't have to format it in some mysterious fashion, just attach the Word document to an email.

She loved it. She held my hand through the entire process. She found me a wonderful design and layout person, Jill Ronsley. She introduced me to a marvelous illustrator for the cover. She answered thousands of questions with humor and patience and rejoiced with me when I got my real finished copies in my hand.

Lana found me a place to get bookmarks and postcards, too. I could never ever have done it without Jorlan Publishing.

Kitten care

Margy, it sounds like your experience left you feeling very cared for. Do you think that's a characteristic of subsidy publishing versus self publishing? Are you able to tell us about some of the differences between subsidy and self, and how you came to choose the one over the other?
