A Drawing Game Book

by K. Michael Crawford
(Fulton, MD, USA)

A Bazel Lark Adventure Drawing Game

A Bazel Lark Adventure Drawing Game

POD by Virtualbookworm.com. I choose them because they would produce my books from my Publishing Company. Which means that I could use my own ISBN.

In a Mystery, there's always Adventure!

What do you do with a first-of-its-kind adventure drawing game book?

That's what I had created and that was question that needed answering. The Mystery of Journeys Crowne, where the reader/artist has to figure out clues in order to know what to draw on each page, first came to life in 2006.

It took me two years to produce the book (working out all the clues and creating the art), because I had to make sure that everything worked out to get the reader to the end of the book and solve the mystery. I wasn't quite sure that I could even find a publisher to take a chance on this new type of book.

Publishers were getting more closed door and only going with well known Authors. I had been in the Children's Book Publishing since the dawn of time and had a good background in how things worked and what you needed to do to get the book off the ground, so I decided to publish the book myself. I started a small Publishing Company called Happily Ever Art Publishing (Sorry, I only publish my books) and then found a POD company that could handle the printing and distribution of my books. Let's just say the rest is history!

So far, this started with a mystery and has wound up into one great adventure that keeps getting better. The Mystery of Journeys Crowne has received excellent reviews and won a Biblio Best of 2009 Award. I am in the process of working on the second book for this Bazel Lark Series and it will be released Summer 2010 just in time to exhibit at Comic Con 2010.

Thanks for a great post. Care to give us a little more info on your "since the dawn of time" involvement in the children's book publishing industry???
