A "Crafty" Book about Autumn

by Marty Layne
(Victoria, BC, Canada)

Felted pumpkin and friend

Felted pumpkin and friend

Self published, printing by Island Blue Print

Hurry, Hurry, Hurry, Hurry, we must all get fat and furry

I was taking photographs of my needle felted little fuzzies, when I realized that I had a story with a needle felted pumpkin, squirrel and dog and Little Blue Feather, a doll I'd made out of pipe cleaners, felt, and wooden beads. Later that same day as the sun was shining on a crisp clear end of September day, I took photos outside to illustrate another story about the coming of winter. Three little needle felted bunnies and Little Blue Feather did a great job posing, and before you know it, the story wrote itself, loosely based on a song I've been singing for the last 26 years.

I recently read it to 6 classes of children k-3. They were absolutely engrossed and delighted. "Will you write more stories?" asked one little boy.

"Absolutely," I answered.

It's a small book a little smaller in size than the Beatrix Potter books. Lovely for little hands to hold. The illustrations capture the comforting flavor of the story and add a sense of magic.

A lot of balls in the air

Marty, thanks for posting. Judging from your website, you've got a lot of things going!

Question: Was your homeschooling book, Learning at Home, published or self published. If the latter, I hope you'll post about it too! You could do so at my other site, The Shared Self Publishing Experience.
